Niki's Cycling Recovery Video Chapter 10 Trigeminal Neuralgia Opioid withdrawal tapering fun hope
Published at : May 06, 2022
Part Ten of my “Recovery” videos!
I have a quicker ride on a too-hot day! I whitter on a bit about learning, self criticism, gratitude, silver linings and a bit about how life traumas can contribute to persistent pain. I also explain a little about the logistics of my opioid taper in this vid.
For me, as I am super sensitised to psychoactive drugs after years of polypharmacy, getting off the last few drugs Ive been prescribed has been a rather challenging thing. Even a small percentage drop can affect me significantly especially psychologically. Thus cycling is great for my mental health while I taper from prescribed opioids and get fitter. Part of my pain management plan!
I have Trigeminal neuralgia (nerve pain in the face and head) and severe migraine like pain, sciatica and currently prolonged opioid withdrawal. I am tapering off these prescribed medications through this recovery process. In the last few years I have managed to massively reduce the pain and fatigue I experience through Biopsychosocial based self-management techniques based on the Curable app. I am now moving back into fitness and health after 17 years of significant disability, and these videos document part of that process building on 18 months of walking, yoga, ballet etc. The Muddy Care pilot scheme has helped in this encouraging different activities and allowing new experiences. One of these new ideas was the Muddy Care Electric Cycling sector which was sadly curtailed due to COVID-19, but this made me determined to continue cycling even though it wasn’t electric!
These videos are raw, unedited, vulnerable, honest and experiential.
I'm learning as I go and so some of what I say might be new to you or my own interpretation of complex ideas. Its always worth checking out the Curable app and Lorimer Moseley's Ted talk.
I am hoping to show that recovery from chronic pain is possible, but is complex, looks different for everyone, and takes time and commitment.
Further Diaries will be uploaded soon so please subscribe and please check back soon.
