Growing calls for mayor convicted of rape to be removed from office

Civil society organisation Action Society is calling for the removal of Western Cape Kannaland mayor and leader of the Independent Civic Organisation of South Africa (ICOSA), Jeffrey Donson and his deputy, Werner Moshoa. Donson was convicted for raping a 15-year-old child in 2004. Initially sentenced to five years in prison, a successful appeal reduced it to a suspended sentence, paving a way for him to be re-elected in 2008. Newzroom Afrika has also reached out to Mayor Jeffrey Donson and has not yet received a response from him

Member of Western Cape provincial Legislature and DA constituency head in Kannaland, Gillion Bosman, has joined calls for the removal of the mayor.
