Unusual train in Peebles, Ohio. Rarely do you see boxcars in Peebles. This is a long train for this short line railroad in southern Ohio. They have been getting some really long trains on this old N&W branch line. This is a tank car storage train move with boxcars and gondolas along for the ride. 3 locomotives pull the train over rusty tracks in Peebles, Ohio. The locomotives with the boxcars and gons came out the day before and spent the night east of Peebles at Plum Run. They did some railroad switching moves east of Peebles and picked up 24 storage tank cars. The other cars came along for the ride because the locomotives needed to be run around to the opposite end of the train to return back westbound. Remember, this is a dead end branch line. It was raining pretty good so I waited in my truck for the train. This is the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad or CCET. This video shows the train passing Peebles, Lawshe, Seaman, Winchester, Macon and Sardinia in that order. I filmed both sides of the train. The 2 leading units are EMD GP15-1s and the third unit is a GE B36-7. It is difficult to catch a train out past Winchester since the only reason to go out that far is for gravel loads or storage car moves. The tracks are usually rusty out that way. There are very few videos of trains in Peebles and Lawshe. Trains are easy to follow since the top track speed is 25mph and there are numerous slow spots. The boxcars are from Huhtamaki in Batavia and the gons are from Cohen Recyling in Macon, Ohio. What do you think about the red and black locomotives in the rain? Leave a comment below. Also, don't miss the end of the video with my new cat and Chessie. Look how much better Norfie the cat looks since the first day that she showed up at my house. She is getting bigger and her fur is clean and shiny. I'm really glad to have the cat. I just have to watch her closely because we have coyotes and hawks that can be very aggressive. One time a huge hawk attacked a rooster in my yard in the middle of the day and I had to hit it with a stick to get it off my rooster. I have had coyotes attack chickens in the evening and don't get me started on the raccoons. I filmed the train on September 22, 2021 and the cat was filmed on September 24, 2021.
One other thing. I get the following question a lot. What is the ticking sound that the locomotives make? Answer: The sound you hear is the moisture being blown out. The more humid it is, or the more loosely the valve is set, the more frequently it will blow out, which when happening rapidly makes a clicking sound. Blowing out the moisture helps prevent damage.
If you like the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad ( CCET ) and would like to see more of them, you are in luck son! I started a FaceBook group dedicated to this railroad that is called Cincinnati Eastern Railroad Fans. Here is a link to my FaceBook group that I started for it called Cincinnati Eastern Railroad Fans! https://www.facebook.com/groups/CincinnatiEasternRailroad Check it out and join today! Other than my JawTooth page it is about the only place that you will find me on Facebook. I post pictures on there of CCET, answer any questions and a lot of other members also post things about CCET to that group. Like all of my accounts it is family friendly with no controversy.
CCET trains operate on 160.860 and rarely ever use an EOT. Trains normally operate Monday through Friday during regular business hours although they can operate any time that a customer needs a switch. CCET leases 69+ route miles of track from Norfolk Southern and has miles of sidings and storage tracks. You didn't read all this!
